Summer Time and the Livin’s Easy. And Sticky. And T-Minus Less Than Two Months to Yulman!

Hello dedicated GSAPC followers and Tulane fans all of shapes, sizes, and statehoods!

GSAPC Secretary Alex Bernadett here.

 Summer Updates!!!

1) The GSAPC Running of the Bulls Krewe represented themselves admirably during the Pamplona Meets NOLA Festivities of July 12th. Bruised behinds1, sweat/sangria stained threads, and empty bottles of wine were our trophies at the end of the run. Muy bueno, GSAPCèrs!

2) GSAPC’s World Cup Finals Watch Party in the Riverbend was a smashing success! Mother Nature’s attempts to derail the day were for naught, as four GSAPC members made it to the 10am Camellia Grill Sunday Brunch just before this happened...

President Darling, NY Rep Tim Lindsay, and yours truly made it over to Cooter Brown’s at 10:58am (2 minutes before CB's opened) to secure a front row table for 15 to watch GERM vs. ARG. A spectacular krewe of Tulane/fùtbol fans joined us to catch a fantastic match.

     3) GSAPCer and GAPSA President Danny Sullivan is working overtime to secure a prime keg location for grads and professional students in Yulman Stadium3!

That concludes the brief, but hopefully informative, Summer Updates!!!

Read on for updates on Members of the GSAPC Wave Council

I trust you are enjoying your summer months as much as the fine folks of the GSAPC Wave Council. Here’s a quick update on the life and times of your Founding Gumbies:

--> GSAPC Prez Jeff Darling is continuing his life as a PhD-candidate Neuroscientist this summer, working like a boss during the week and living like a boss on the weekends. He made time to take a trip back to Grand Ol’ Idaho and Minnesota to reconnect with his family and potato-based roots6.

Luke and Jason continue their quest for Lynne's affection at BCSF

--> GSAPC Brains-Behind-The-Operation Lynne Firmin has also found time to take a few road trips during the Pelicans offseason7 . In addition to heading west for the annual Lynch Family Reunion in Wine Country, California in June and hitting up Bayou Country Superfest over Memorial Day Weekend, Lynne partook in an incredibly enviable trip across the Southeast USA with comrade Will Thompson. Needless to say, the resulting Facebook Photo Albums have been jaw-drop-to-the-floor awesome.

--> GSAPC Veep John Scimeca received his Master of Education degree from Notre Dame, got engaged8, and will be moving to South America in the coming months to teach English to kids who can’t read good and want to learn to do other stuff good too9.

"And wuv, tru wuv, will fowo you foweva."
--> GSAPC Token Really, Really, Really, Ridiculously Good Looking Man10 Eric Peterson has been working up a storm in Washington D.C. as a State Policy Analyst for Americans For Prosperity11. In his free time, he may or may not have secured a role in the third season of House of Cards12.
House of Cards: Season 3, Introducing:
Eric Peterson, the innocent young man appointed to fill a vacancy in the US Senate.
His innovative plans promptly collide with political corruption, but he doesn't back down13
--> GSAPC Secretary Alex Bernadett has jumped into his third year of medical school at Tulane and has continued to expand the ways in which he broadens his education outside of the classroom14. He has found his old Hawaiian t-shirts15 to be both fashionable and weather appropriate for the NOLA Summer.
A Beauty, Beast, Beauty Sandwich.
L to R: GSAPCers Libby, Alex, and Asyl.

--> GSAPC Treasurer Pat Baldwin has been living it up in Alabama, learning everything about everything at the Harrison School of Pharmacy16, and attending MLB games when the opportunity presents itself.

Pat takes in "America's two great past times, baseball and air conditioning"
There’s so much more to say, but I see Mother Nature is cooking up another NOLA-styled Summer Thunderstorm (i.e. extra flavorful rain with a dash of lightning and a dollop of flooded streets17). Besides, I should leave it to my fellow Wave Council Members to give you actual, horrible-jokes-free GSAPC Blog Updates.

I leave you with a quote from Tulane's former hero/current arch rival/Darth Vader equivalent, Alton Ochsner:
"Early to bed, early to rise, work hard, and publicize."

For the Olive & Blue,

Alex Bernadett

Tailgates:

Homecoming-

It was a busy homecoming this year. Tulane brought home a nice win over the talented University of North Texas Mean Green. We plucked the Eagles! The GSAPC tailgate welcomed over 50+ people and hosted visiting/travelling fans from the following states:

Texas
Kansas
Tennessee
Florida
New York
Alabama
Louisiana
New Jersey

They weren't disappointed as the wave turned it out 24-21. Here's some pics!:

The Wave wasn't finished though! They turned it up the very next week vs. ECU! In what has been called the biggest Tulane win in a decade, Tulane tore it up and beat ECU in triple OT 36-33. Any older fans sure had a heart attack or 4 as Devin Powell rep'd Tulane well for an injured Nick Montana. Tulane fans are sure to come out of the woodworks after this big W!

Always a great tribute!

All they do is win win win no matter what!

NOW ON TO TULSA!

CuJo gave the team a week off... which meant weights and film this week. A good thing! Our players are banged up and needed this rest time for midterms and health recuperation. We move on to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The Green Wave hasn't beaten Tulsa since 1968 and they avg 20+ pt wins over us. Time to change dat!

The GSAPC will be throwing a helluva hullabaloo costume theme tailgate, so come dressed to impress. Handle of liquor to the costume most celebratory of the season of winning. Here's a link to the event on Facebook:

Nuff said.

Scott Cowen promised to stop by the tailgate so make sure you're dressed to impress! And liquored up to tell him how you really feel....

FOOTBALL SEASON IS HERE Y'ALL!

JDar here with another celebratory blog post. In fact this blog is chock full of celebrations! We're celebrating an undefeated Tulane, the return of Saints/Tulane football, a 4-0 start for our volleyball team, my start as a PhD candidate at Tulane, the stadium being in full swing, and a great GSAPC event at WalkOn's. Let's break it down!!

Last week the Tulane football team kicked off it's first game of the season vs. the Jackson State Tigers. We threw a celebratory pregaming party at The Roux House, WalkOns. Last count showed all 85 wristbands had sold! Roughly 85 GSAPC'ers, Young Alum, athletics staff, and friends/family gathered at the bar to throw back and have a helluva good time. Food and wine runneth over! So much in fact that this is the only picture to make it out of the event!:

These stragglers are all dues paying members of the GSAPC. Want to join them? This Homecoming we'll be taking dues for the rest of the 2013-2014 campaign. Email us at gumbysapc@gmail.com for more information on dues and membership.

Looks like Gumby is 1-0 in the opponent on a fleur de lis spike run! Next victim is of the cat variety still as we take on the University of South Alabama Jaguars.
Hope they receive the same fate and our beloved Tulane starts 2-0 for the first time since 2002 and the first back to back wins since 2009! We will be tailgating for the USA game on garage 5. Look for our signature blue tent. This time we'll have a banner and flags flying free. Gettin' fancy now ya heard? Tailgate is Saturday September 7th, 10am-2:15pm. See facebook event for details

Upcoming events for the GSAPC crew (No tailgates till homecoming! These away games are painful):

9-12-2013 we will be joining at Roberts Bar (see FB for confirmation closer to date) to watch Tulane bludgeon the bulldogs @ LaTech

9-21-2013 we will be joining at Casa Del Darling to watch Tulane crush the Syracuse Orange, @Syracuse.

9-28-2013 we will be joining at locale TBA (likely a Gumby volunteer's home) to pluck the ULM Warhawks! @ULM

10-05-2013 we will be joining on the roof of Garage 5 for Homecoming! Major details to come for this. GET READY. WE'RE ALREADY PUMPED.

Other celebratory news for me personally... started my PhD in Neuroscience at Tulane! Jesuit HS is undefeated! My fantasy football team is tied for first place! (well it is just starting so hard not be... but hey!). Lost 5 lbs of beer weight and riding my new Univega to school daily too, her name is Eunice for those wondering.

Also the stadium is coming along nicely!:

Lights. Point em @ the Nimbys!!

More pics to come as the stadium continues it's historic rise!

Dat Dog had a great event for Devon Walker. Proceeds from the night went to support Devon. We chowed down till our guts nearly burst for the cause in supporting our fellow Tulanian. Here's some pics!:

YUM.
