Revived: An Encompassing, Perhaps Rambling, Occassionally Entertaining, GSAPC Blog Post

Greetings GSAPC blog enthusiasts!

Secretary Alex here. It’s been far too long. I trust your summer months have treated you well. Snowballs. Afternoon thundershowers. Lazy Sundays. Sweating in places you didn’t know you could sweat. There are certain things the summer months bring that you can’t recreate, especially if you’re fortunate enough to spend them in The Big Easy.

Last time we talked (via blog-styled conversation), I was in Olla, LA on a Rural Medicine Elective through the Tulane School of Medicine. Needless to say, it was an incredible, four week experience and the people of NoLA (Northern Louisiana) were kind, friendly, and welcoming beyond all expectation. I spread the Tulane Love with the due-i-est of diligence (see photo) and hope to visit NoLA sometime soon. Perhaps for either the Tulane football game versus LA Tech in Ruston (9/12/13) or versus ULM in Monroe (9/28/13).

I wore the Louisiana College hat (my mentor's university) and he rocked the TUSOM hat. It was precious.

Shortly (i.e. 16 hours) after returning from Olla to New Orleans, Class of 2012 grad Kathleen Pope and I departed for our Bernie & Pope Conquer the West: Tour de America featuring special guest Manifest Destiny (aka CtW) road trip. 36 days, 10,354 miles, 6 National Parks, 13 inside jokes, and 21 states later, we made it back to New Orleans just in time (Saturday, August 3rd) to get me back to the first day of medical school (Monday, August 5th). Here's a small sampling of photos from West of the Mississippi:
Overlooking the Grand Canyon. Bringing the Tulane Spirit. Gorge-ous.

KP and I on the Hoover Dam. Rocking the sun protection and tie dye.
Enjoying a Moose Drool in the Lake Hotel Sunroom, Yellowstone NP. 4th of July, 2013.

Over the course of the five weeks of West Conquering, many lessons were learned, strangers befriended, NPR shows listened to, and crises avoided. If you’re inclined, loyal blog enthusiasts, I would like to share a four-piece sample platter* of those nuggets of wisdom with you. Each nugget will be paired with a complementary Youtube clip to play along with your reading. If you’re into that sort of thing.

4) Sports are awesome. We included three live sporting events in the CtW itinerary. Two MLB games in Seattle and one MLS game in Portland. Seeing the Red Sox play the Mariners two days in a row at Safeco Field was legen.....**. Starting at a young age, I finagled my “I was born in Massachusetts” card into being a Red Sox fan. So it was a pleasant coincidence that our time in Seattle lined up with the Sox being in town. Couple that with picking up a copy of “Now I Can Die In Peace” by Bill Simmons at UC Berkeley and a visit to Sonny McLean’s in Santa Monica, CA and I can’t help but say I was revived as a Red Sox fan.
One helluva way to spend the 23rd birthday.
However, the supreme sporting experience of CtW was our indoctrination into the Portland Timbers Army. A friend of KP and mine from Portland was kind enough to shepherd us into Jeld-Wen Stadium and introduce us to the most insane sporting event either of us had experienced. The people of Portland rocked, cheered, chanted, sang, drank local microbrews, danced, chanted some more, and rooted for their Timbers with unparalleled passion and balls-to-the-wall enthusiasm for nearly two and a half straight hours.
Photos don't do it justice. Helluva fan base right here.

What "started with a group of twenty guys banging on pickle buckets" morphed into what you heard in the Youtube clip. I cannot wait for the day that Devlin Fieldhouse, Yulman Stadium, and Turchin Stadium unleash the energy that we witnessed in Jeld-Wen!

While Portland (and pretty much every city we went to***) were spectacular, our 36 days on the road further solidified the knowledge that….

3) New Orleans is awesome. I planned on writing a heart-warming, thought out, eloquent piece here. However, I realized that I could never do New Orleans justice by describing it in words. Maybe if this blog was scratch-n-sniff, I could get close. Those with the writing prowess to accomplish this feat are far more skilled than I. While I could share countless stories about the Crescent City's influence on our trip, I believe this picture (taken in Portland) shows off one of the many reasons New Orleans holds a special place in all our hearts:
WWWHHHHAAAAATTTTTT?!?!?!?!?
2) Friends are awesome. KP and I met in 2010 through our shared employer, the Tulane HRL Department. We started planning the Conquer the West trip in the fall of 2012. Between her passion for Excel spreadsheets and my obsession with Google Maps, we planned out a budget, itinerary, timeline, and places to stay/camp. While we didn't necessarily adhere to any of those, it was (in retrospect) a hefty planning process and a whole lot of fun.
On top of the world in Salida, CO. Almost taking a normal photo. Almost.
How a small town boy from California and a smaller town girl from the Commonwealth of Kentucky ever wound up meeting, becoming friends, and planning such an adventure in the first place is pretty cool. Truly something that can only be summarized as: “Only at Tulane. Only in New Orleans.”

Tulane has provided all of us at GSAPC with amazing, life-long friendships that cannot be described in words or YouTube videos or blog post (yet I still try). We are all quite fortunate to have been together at a place like Tulane in a city like New Orleans to learn, live, and grow together for 4 (or more) years. On that note….

1) Tulane is awesome. As if we didn't know this already, right?! Maybe it was the fact that we were welcomed into homes thousands of miles away from New Orleans because of the friends we had made at Tulane. It could have been the numerous two lane highways we drove (insert pity laughter here). Perhaps it was the time spent away that made the heart grow fonder.

A Tu-Lane Highway in Yosemite (insert eye roll here).
All I can say is this: The experiences of this summer made me more proud to support Tulane and believe in the future of our athletic program than ever before. Whether you still live in New Orleans or not, we are all very lucky to have a university and city to call home and a family of Tulane supporters to cheer with us during the good times, cry with us during the bad, and enjoy libations together on days that end in "y".

Now, you're probably thinking, "Isn't this a Tulane sports/booster club blog? What is this kid rambling on about? I just wanted to read about all the fun, exciting, awesome things that the Gumby's Social Aid & Pleasure Club is planning for the start of the school year!" Or you're thinking this. Either way, here's a breakdown of what's coming up in the next couple weeks:

Friday, 8-16-2013 (Spark Notes ReCap): GSAPC hosted it's first official "Holy S^#!, there's a Tulane player on the Saints!" tailgate this Friday in honor of  AB Freeman School of Business 2013 graduate Ryan Griffin. Ryan looked right at home in the Dome from our Section 608 seats. He played a solid chunk of time in the 2nd half, made great throws, and rocked the Black and Gold. The Black N Gold themed tailgate, the Saints W over the Raiders, and Class of 2012 Tulane grad Joe Enriquez getting some RG4 face time post-game made the day one to remember.
GSAPCers Enjoying a Black N Gold Tailgate.
Look, I see Ryan Griffin!
Tulane, Saints, and RG4 Fan Joe Enriquez (Class of 2012) chilling with RG4 (Class of 2013).

Tuesday, 8-20-2013: GSAPC Welcomes the Next Generation! GSAPC Wave Council Members Lynne, Jeff, and Yours Truly will be welcoming the members of the Class of 2017 that are participating in NOLA, the popular, pre-freshman year, funtastic week that is offered by Tulane. We're partnering up with other booster clubs and Tulane fans for the event. It promises to be a great time (we're bringing desserts!).

Monday, 8-26-2013: Get your appetites ready! From 1pm-7pm on this day, 10% of tips at the two Dat Dog locations in New Orleans will be donated to Devin's Den.. While this isn't a GSAPC event, it's an extremely worthy cause and warrants mentioning here. As a former Dat Dog employee (summer of 2012), I would have to recommend the Guinness Dog with Andouille Sauce, cheese, bacon, grilled onions, and creole mustard. Get a CBR (Chedder, Bacon, Ranch Fries) with grilled onions if you want to enjoy a "balanced", delicious meal!
Great food + greater cause = greaterer deal!

Thursday, 8-29-2013: This is the one you've been waiting for: The Tulane football season opener. In true Tulane spirit, GSAPC is partnering up with the TU Alumni Association to bring you a helluva good time! We're providing an all-you-care-to-eat/drink blowout extravaganza at Walk On's from 5pm to gametime. Walk On's is (pun intended) walking distance from the Dome on Poydras. Tickets to this event are $30. Which, let's be honest, will pale in comparison to the priceless memories you will make on this historic night. So bust open that piggy bank and join us for what promises to be a rousing good time by ordering your ticket(s) here.

Thanks for reading, enthusiasts! I wish you sweet dreams of Montana to Grant, Santos splitting the uprights, and Darion Monroe cleaning someone's clock.

Love from Louisiana,

Alex

Notes:

* = For the full course menu, you'll have to wait for the release of "The CtW Movie: Keeping KP Fed & AB Quiet" starring Kristen Stewart as KP and McLovin as AB.

This Greenie Summer is heatin' up!!

Good afternoon Gumby's! President Darling here, writing from the Broadmoor castle 2 weeks before I move into my new home (being rehabbed as we speak)! As I write this it is a mere 90 degrees outside but good news, only feels like 100! No time for moving. Just sitting. But that's fine by me because guess what starts in a week? SAINTS SEASON. I got these little ladies in the mail today and I'm hardly able to contain the excitement:

I think I'm most excited for the Saints/Falcons opener. Those dirty birds be goin' DOWN!
!WHO DAT!

If you aren't watching football prediction specials or training camps you are probably enjoying the best weather in the country. New Orleans may be hot but it's perfect for Frisbee, soccer, and tanning outside. Look at some of these pics from Audubon right now!:

HUGE SWAN (That's a swan right?)

Back to the GSAPC though! We've been hard at work preppin' two events for y'all. The first is a Saints/TUlane celebration of sorts. August 16th is Ryan Griffin's possible hometown debut vs the Raiders. We're throwing a tailgate to celebrate. Get your tix and come join us!:

Even more excitedly we present to you our August 29th pregame festivities. We've partnered with the New Orleans Alumni Association to buy out the upstairs of Walk Ons Bistreaux. $30 and you get premium open bar beer/wine, the good stuff! Festivities are 5-7pm and tickets are already selling fast (and limited due to venue space). Go buy some today! (Link to register below the ad).:

That makes Tulane football only 26 days away!

Greetings fellow Tulanians. Treasurer Pat here taking a momentary break from the Gulf Coast summer sun to fill all you GSAPCers in on what we have in store for the next several weeks as we look forward to August, the start of a new school year, and, most importantly, the 2013-2014 football season. Speaking of football, this guy (and many other media sources) has us winning 6 games. That's a bowl season y'all!

This blog post comes to you from my home in Alabama, where college football is king and the SEC is headquartered. The start of a new season is a time of eternal optimism and the first topic of today’s post.
Whether home or away, the first game of the season is always a reason to celebrate for the Tulane faithful. I still remember my freshman year at TU when I spent Hurrication 08 cheering on the Green Wave against the #13 Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, AL. While we greenies were a small group in a sea of crimson, I will never forget the faithful fans who spent their time away from their beloved city rooting for our team not knowing what they might return to find. We suffered a heartbreaking loss, but I still get to remind all my SEC-centric family/friends that Tulane is the only team to hold Alabama to under 200 yards of offense in the Saban era (TU had 318 total yards of offense).

What was great that year was that one week later I got to spend my first weekend in NOLA as a college student climbing down all seven flights of Butler stairs to cheer on the Green Wave in an equally heartbreaking four point loss to the #14 East Carolina Pirates at home. I mastered the lyrics to the Hullabaloo that game, but the fight song eluded me for a few more weeks.

Superdome in 2004

This year, the Tulane Green Wave will kick off their season Thursday August 29th in the Superdome against the Jackson State Tigers at 7 PM CST. As you GSAPC faithful may recall, the 29th will be the eighth anniversary of the landfall of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast. This will be the first football game played in the Superdome on this anniversary as well as Tulane’s last season opener in the dome for the foreseeable future. A building that has come to symbolize the resilient nature of the people of New Orleans will play host to a team hoping to emulate its hometown. With a new stadium in progress Uptown, a move to a new conference eminent, and a second year head coach, we have a lot to look forward to as Tulane fans. I hope you are as excited to attend the game as I am and be there for something this extraordinary.

We at GSAPC, under the leadership of our president, are planning to show our strength at the game on the 29th while sharing the experience with our fellow alumni. Gumby members and New Orleans Young Alumni will join at a venue near the Superdome for food and drink from 5-7pm. Look forward to upcoming news and registration info about this exciting event before the game. YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS OUT. Good times, good people, and the opportunity to instill a love for Tulane football in the hearts of all the white-eyed undergrads in attendance. Info upcoming in our newsletter and on facebook!

There are eleven more games in the regular season, and we look forward to each and every one of them as well. Don’t forget about the postseason too. 13 or 14 games are possible in CUSA this year, and you bet your GSAPC leadership will be ready to celebrate all Green Wave triumphs and accomplishments this year.

I’ll wrap up my turn at the keyboard with some important info. Below are some highlights of other upcoming events that you’ll want to put on your calendar sooner than later.
  •  A Greenie in Black & Gold-August 16th-Come celebrate as Tulane alum Ryan Griffin starts his New Orleans Saints career at the preseason game vs. the Raiders of Oakland. We will tailgate outside the dome starting ~3pm before attending the game together and rooting for the boys in black and gold. Look at our FB page for details and eventual event location. Our seats are in sections 608 and 630. So far 30 Greenies have signed up and will descend upon the dome. Come join us! Roll Wave!
  • Pub Crawl-Your GSAPC leadership is currently planning a Magazine St. pub crawl/get together/raffle scheduled for Saturday, August 24th. We will be raffling off a chest of cheer and some Tulane/Pelicans swag. You are welcome to bring friends, play games, and come hang out with your buddies in the GSAPC. Members will have a chance at picking up some GSAPC swag (new T-Shirt!) or just enjoying some good ole beer. Look for details to follow on our social media pages as the date approaches and the detailed prize list is finalized.
  • Homecoming-October 5th vs North Texas. Get Excited. If you’re interested in learning more or have questions about any events contact us (gumbysapc@gmail.com). Need a place to stay in your Homecoming, home coming, let us know! We got spare rooms y'all. Come back to NOLA AND STAY HERE!

Farewell from the land of rolling tides, warring eagles, and ample parking spaces,

It’s Great to Be Green. Yes, I said GREAT.

I’ve been cheering on Tulane since I was a kid, thanks to my family full of Greenies. I remember following Shaun King and the Wave to Memphis TWICE when I was 8 years old during 1998’s Perfect Season. Once to see the Wave beat the Tigers during regular season and again to watch them win the Liberty Bowl. I even got a picture with the trophy! I still follow Shaun King, only now it's on Twitter. I also remember chasing foul balls in 2001, then waiting by the dugout after the game to snag autographs from Michael Aubrey, Jonny Kaplan, Jake Gautreau, and others that were part of Tulane’s historical win against LSU and first trip to Omaha.  Ah, the glory days!
Check out me and centerfielder Jon Kaplan - my favorite baseball player back when I was 12!

Now, I’m 22, a Tulane graduate, and constantly nagged by my coworkers and non-Tulane friends for my puzzling passion for a weak athletics organization. It seems like Tulane has had nothing but bad hype lately. Rick Jones had the fewest wins of his tenure, finishing this season at 30-28. Successful coaches like women’s golf coach Andrew Pratt and sand volleyball coach Alan Segal are both leaving Tulane for lesser jobs. Six basketball players have transferred. Our 2013 football schedule is pretty much the laughing stock of the NCAA. Being a Greenie seems to get tougher every year, but I’ll never stop sporting my love for Tulane.

Here are my 7 reasons why:

1. I DO see light at the end of the tunnel:  One year from now, we’ll have a new University President, we’ll officially be a part of the new American Athletic Conference, and we’ll be preparing for opening night in Yulman Stadium. These are three HUGE shifts for the Green Wave that have amazing potential to completely change the nature of this organization into something great. It’s truly the start of a new era for Tulane Athletics. I recently came across this article on SBNation.com and, although I initilally rolled my eyes at the seemingly sarcastic "Baby Steps" headline, I found it pretty spot-on. The Author, Bill Connelly, points out that Tulane is on the right track to slowly reshape their program into a great one - but that doesn't happen overnight! Finally, a winning season is within reach and 2013 is shaping up to be a promising year and a significant baby step for Curtis Johnson's team.

2. Rich in history and stuck on traditions. I could sit and listen to a Tulane Alumn sit and tell stories of the good ole days, back when they went to games at the old Tulane Stadium, all. day. long. The history and traditions that have been rooted in Tulane culture over the years are really fascinating. Tulane has one of the oldest and most storied athletic programs in the south.
-I saw a couple of tweets going around a few weeks ago about Tulane’s 3 SEC Championships. It’s pretty cool that we have more SEC Championship titles than both Kentucky and Mississippi State.  And yes, LSU has beat us significantly more times than we’ve beat them, BUT… we did shut them out in both the first matchup ever in 1893 AND the last matchup played in Tulane Stadium in 1973. That has to count for something, right?
;-)

Oh, and have you ever eaten at Reginelli's Pizza? The owner is the brother of a community hero! Reggie Reginelli had a 32-yd reception to beat LSU 31-28 in 1982 that will go down in infamy.. in the hearts of Tulane fans, at least. (Note: I wasn’t born yet, but with the way my aunts and uncles talk about this game, I feel like I was there!)
....And then there was that famous perfect 12-0 season with Tommy Bowden.
-One of my absolute favorite traditions: I LOVE hearing stories about he Wheelbarrows after The Battle for the Rag. Our rivalry with LSU is one of the oldest college football rivalries in the nation! The winner would receive “The Rag” – a half Tulane, half LSU banner. It disappeared in the early 1980s (rumor has it that some Tulane students destroyed it after our 48-7 victory in ’81). A new one was created in 2001. The most fun part about the Battle for the Rag is the ridiculous wager that occurs year after year. In the  70s, frequenters of Norby’s Bar (which no longer exists) would wager that whatever team won earned the right to be pushed around the block in a decorated wheelbarrow by the opposing team’s fans. The tradition lived on at Henry’s Bar with a second line and parade the Sunday following the Tulane-LSU game... up until LSU decided we weren't worth their time. I certainly don't miss getting my butt kicked by the Tigers, but it is a shame that our football rivalry is no longer an annual event.

-The history behind our school colors is another interesting mystery! It’s said that LSU and Tulane’s colors were picked at the same time.. back in the late 1890s around Mardi Gras season. I’ve read a Baton Rouge article that states the LSU football coach at the time went  to purchase ribbon for their gray jerseys in preparation for their first football game. Apparently stores were stocking ribbons in the colors of Mardi Gras, but the green had not yet arrived, so LSU went with purple and gold, leaving the green for Tulane to later claim. I’ve also read similar stories that the teams were picking colors during Mardi Gras time, so stores were stocked with purple, green, and gold fabric. LSU had the privilege of choosing first, so they left just Green for the Wave. Then again, I’ve heard some Tulane fans claim it’s the other way around. I’ll never really know the TRUTH, but it’s an interesting concept behind the schools’ colors!

Steering away from football… did you know that TUMB was founded in 1920 as a military band? They disappeared for a while, but returned in 2006 just in time for me to start school there. Now I couldn’t be prouder of my younger brother for being a part of this Krewe that really makes a difference at our home games!

-How about that old tradition of throwing Mardi Gras beads onto the Fogelman court at the basketball game before Fat Tuesday? Only at Tulane would that be a tradition! Unfortunately, the beads were banned after the Perry Clark era when an opposing player was hit in the eye. In 2012, some students (including your future GSAPC founders *cough cough*) tried to revive this tradition. It led to a technical foul, just like it used to….

3. I actually DID go to school there. I typically claim Prairieville, LA as my hometown, but on occasion I will admit the truth: I was born in the heart of Tigerland. When I share my Baton Rouge roots with others, the first thing I hear is, “So why aren’t you an LSU fan?” It’s no secret that a pretty good chunk of “Die-hard LSU fans” never actually attended Louisiana State University. I'm not saying you can't be a fan of any university that you did not attend.. but I worked hard to be able to go to school at Tulane. Then, I worked hard to finish school at Tulane. When I’m watching the Green Wave play, I feel a sense of pride and ownership to this team. That’s MY school and I’ve got a diploma to prove it!
4. The Hullabaloo: I just LOVE that no one else knows what we are talking about. Hell, I don’t even know what we’re talking about but it’s a helluva a good time chanting this during the games and watching the opposing fans look around in confusion.

5. Thanking the fans: Every team will claim they have the best fans, so of course I am biased. But, come on. How can you not tip your hat to Tulane fans. Look at what we put up with! Losing season after losing season, “Tiger Bait” chant after “Tiger Bait” chant… we still wear our green with pride.
6. Only at Tulane, Only in New Orleans: Duh! I can't tell you how many times I have repeated this university motto. We're one of the very few teams that can claim NEW ORLEANS as our home. We have the best food, the best culture, the best music, the best nightlife, and the best people! Win or Lose – we still booze, and we still have a damn good time in our city!
7. I was born this way: Last, but certainly not least, I was born this way. Bandwagons, fairweather fans, and poor sportsmanship have always been my biggest pet peeves.I was introduced to Tulane when I was born and embraced the fact that Olive & Blue is in my blood. Now, I have instant respect for anyone who is born with this similar blessing. :-)

GSAPC has the potential to really make a difference on Tulane Athletics. I am really looking forward to uniting with my fellow "Wave Council" members to get young alumni excited about Tulane sports. We desparately need to boost a new generation of fans and I couldn't be happer to be a part of spearheading such a campaign. So -spread the word and keep an eye out for fun GSPAC events!

Cheers & Roll Wave

Hey fellow Gumbys and Green Wave fans!

Jeff here with the first letter from the President. I'm writing to you while hunkered down in my Broadmoor home hiding from the summer shower flooding people's cars outside. Second floor apartment for the win mirite? Locked in the house is a good thing today though as it gives me time to sit and relax and get to this inaugural blog post. Here we go!

It has been quite a busy month for us at the Gumby Social Aid & Pleasure Club! We have had our founders meeting, a launch party, a trip to the northshore for an Eric Lindell concert, a trip to Tiger Country (smelled like corn dogs and dead fish) for Bayou Country Super Fest, and our first pub crawl (to celebrate member Asyl Nachabe's birthday). Here are some pictures from the events!:

Here are the founding members of GSAPC! From left to right-
Pat Baldwin, Eric Peterson, Lynne Firmin, John Scimeca, Alex Bernadett, Jeff Darling (thats me)

We made a trip over to Mobile, Alabama to see John and tell him about the epicness that was the Dalai Lama. What a great speaker! Way to go Tulane! And to think, poor Loyola only got Tim Brokaw, who had the nerve to throw a jab at us during his speech. Haters gonna hate, mirite? Anyway we went to Mobile and drew up our founding father document (to be revealed at a later date, La Constituzione). And to celebrate we hopped along with the Krewe de something or other as they crawled from bar to bar. I forget the Krewe name but Mobile gras is fake anyway!

We did meet this lady though who was doing the Hullabaloo when she heard about our founding.

But who cares about Mobile?

Homesick we returned to NOLA and threw one helluva launch party. 40 Greenwave fans, Tulane employees, Roberts regulars, and Sarah the bartendress, gathered to throw one helluva hullabaloo party. Pool/Pingpong/Abita/more Abita.... did I say we had a lot of Abita? A good time was had. No other pics! I might run for the other President one day...

Here is a pic from our first GSAPC Pub Crawl, costumes required

Happy birthday Asyl! One of our members celebrated her birthday so naturally we all dawned costumes and invaded Magazine, Roberts, Mayfair, Prytania, Snakes, and any other bar that would take us. The theme was pick your own theme and that turned into outer space, dress as your best friend, bar whench, Irish, and what not. We live in Nawlins, no questions were asked.

Here we have BCSF, aka that country thing in enemy territory
Some of us stayed outside and tailgated while the other 15 went in and enjoyed the country. The whole time our Tulane flag flew freely and there was not a thing those Tiger fans could say about it.
ROLL WAVE!

Our most recent outing was a trip to Mandeville for an Eric Lindell show.

The northshore? When and why do you think we ventured there? Well good music, libations, and visiting the Sunseri crew. Hannah Sunseri hosted an event at her casa in Mandeville and showed the rest of us GSAPC'ers how them northerners do it. We did notice a suspiciously low number of roaches outside. Mandeville is a strange place... but Eric Lindell was awesome! As was Ruby's Roadhouse, a Mandeville classic and Tulane lovin' place. Check out this sign!:

Needless to say, a lot of fun has been had so far!
But remember, not everything about the GSAPC is pleasure. Sometimes we work in that social aid! Here is a project we're considering for Tulane Outreach, August 30th:

This is a paint picture of a Tulane mural on I-10 near the prison. In 1998 our football team went undefeated (roll wave) and in honor of that achievement this baby was put up! Sadly, like our football team's records as of late, this piece of artwork has seen hard times. We're thinking of rehabbing it and fixing her up! Let us know if you want to get involved.

_________________________________________________________________

We have a lot planned coming up. June's Monday meeting is over with but the events are building up! We've decided to officially make our meetings open to the public and GSAPC followers every 1st Monday night of each month at Roberts, 7 pm. We'll have speakers, music, and libations. Additional events in the works:

July 1st, Monday, a going away countdown party for Scotty C. at (where else) Robert's.
July 4th, Thursday, a trip to Baton Rouge for the USS Kidd fireworks display. Rides available. Fireworks, food, tailgating, frisbee, football. Last year we made the Advocate!
August 16th, Friday, Ryan Griffin debut with Saints game, buying tickets!
August 24th, Saturday, a pub crawl raffle fundraiser to gear us up for football season.
August 29th, Thursday, our first home game of the season vs. Jackson State arrives (Yeehaw and thank the lord!  What a dismal off season)
August 31st, Saturday, Tulane Outreach. Regardless as to if we do the mural or not you betcha that GSAPC will be in full force lending that social aid.

_________________________________________________________________

In addition to all the events we've been having, our techies have been hard at work getting our website (launch date still TBD) and logos up and running! We've got some GSAPC logos. Here they are in all their glory-

To close, I want to say how humbled and thrilled I am with the outreach and support from the Tulane community so far. More people have called/emailed/tweeted/texted me about this in support of the GSAPC and Tulane than I already would've ever thunk. Its been an awesome ride that we hope to keep growing!
